What is the Bible Big Book

In the Bible, we find God’s words that tell his story. These words are important because they tell us about God and about how we should live as God’s people in the world that God made. This term, we will learn about what the Bible is and what it can teach us.

This Big Book is designed to be printed on A3 paper and shared with your class. Gluing each page onto A3 card will make the Big Book last longer. You can use this Big Book by adding one page week by week to revise the lessons you've previously taught or you can print the whole book all at once and read it each week to your class. There are also class activities to complete on each page.

Hebrews 1.1–2

The Bible is a big book with lots of pages and lots of words. What is this big book about? The Bible is God’s story in God’s own words.

Hebrews 1.1

The Bible is a big book that has God’s words which tell God’s story. The first half of the Bible is called the Old Testament, or God’s Old Words. In God’s Old Words, we learn about God and his people.

Exodus 18.20

God’s law is part of God’s Old Words. These words tell us about how God made everything in and around our world and he is the Great King. These words tell us how God’s people, Israel, were supposed to live in God’s world.

Hebrews 11.39–12.1

The Stories are part of God’s Old Words. These stories tell us about how God faithfully cared for his people, Israel.

Proverbs 3.21–26

How were God’s people supposed to live faithfully with God as their Great King? The third part of God’s Old Words is The Wise Words. These words told God’s people, Israel, how they should live as God’s faithful people.

Amos 3.7–8 + Romans 1.1–2

God faithfully brought his people, Israel, to live in the Promised Land. But Israel was not always faithful to God, the Great King. So God sent his messengers to remind Israel how to live as God’s faithful people.

Romans 1.1–6

The Bible is a big book that has God’s words which tell God’s story. The second part of the Bible is called the New Testament, or God’s New Words. In God’s New Words, we learn about Jesus, the Promised King, and his new people.

Luke 1.1–4

At the beginning of God’s New Words, there are four books that tell the story of some Very Good News. This Very Good News is that Jesus, the Promised King has come to save his people.

Colossians 1.25–28

After the Very Good News in God’s New Words comes The Letters. The Letters were written by people who knew that Jesus was the Promised King. They wrote letters to tell God’s people to keep on faithfully following Jesus.

What’s so important about the Bible and what can we learn from it? The Bible teaches us how to live as God’s people in the world God created.
